Hi, I’m an English VFX artist and motion designer living and working in the unbelievably, unbearably hot Los Angeles. (Sorry, I’m still “acclimating”)
I tend to focus my energy towards FX, lighting and some environments, but throughout my career, I have had to delve into almost every facet VFX has to offer, and have gradually transformed into a fully fleshed generalist as well.
I use Houdini FX almost exclusively for my 3D work. It works the way I like to work, and we happen to work very well together. I am well versed with procedural modeling, volume fluids (Smoke / Fire / Explosions), FLIP liquids (Water / Milk / Orange Soda), cloth, rigid bodies, soft bodies, grains, FEM, particles, python, VEX, DOPS, LOPS, CHOPS, COPS, HDAs / OTLs and any other three-letter abbreviations Houdini has to offer. As for compositing, I like to work with After Effects or Nuke. For a complete software list, see the software section below.
Over the past 10 years, I have found myself interpolating between various other creative roles, occasionally editing, and even directing the odd TV commercial. I have spent thousands of hours working with clients, and most of whom didn’t know diddly squat about CGI. So whether it’s explaining technical aspects of a project in a language they understand, managing their expectations, or just simply just trying to figure out what they want, when they don’t even know what they want… <- very common problem. I can certainly help!
I have a keen interest in AI and deep learning, scoping out the latest models ( eg: style-transfer / facial landmarking ) and implementing them into my personal projects. I also happen to be one half of the award-winning commercial directing duo, Mad Ruffian.
( Mad Ruffian is represented in London by Independent Films and in the U.S. by Safeword )
